The annual Peace Treaty Festival, established in 1927, is a spectacular celebration of diversity and culture!

Attend the Peace Treaty Festival to both observe and participate in events and activities steeped in authentic Native American tradition.

Signature Peace Treaty Events

The Peace Treaty Pageant Reenactment

Every three years, Medicine Lodge, Kansas, hosts the Peace Treaty Pageant that features an epic reenactment.

This event is like no other you’ve ever seen! Taking place in a natural amphitheater just outside of Medicine Lodge, it’s a grand reenactment of the great Peace Council of 1867 between the U.S. Government and the five tribes of Plains Indians: the Apache, Arapaho, Cheyenne, Comanche, and Kiowa.

Peace Treaty Parade

Everyone should experience the Peace Treaty Parade at least once in their lives! You’ll see Native American dancers, a wagon train, Indian maidens, classic cars, and so much more.

Peace Treaty Powwow

The Peace Treaty Powwow is an exciting way to learn about Native American history and culture. Steeped in centuries-old tradition, the Peace Treaty Powwow is full of Native American tradition. You will see:

  • Intertribal dancing celebrations and competitions
  • Beautiful Native American regalia
  • Food vendors serving Indian tacos and fry bread
  • Shopping opportunities: T-shirts, Native jewelry, rugs, wooden crafts, wall decor, and items for children

Peace Treaty’s Kansas Championship Ranch Rodeo

The Peace Treaty’s Kansas Championship Ranch Rodeo is an annual event you don’t want to miss! Teams of working cowboys compete in featured events such as

  • Ranch Bronc Riding
  • Calf Branding
  • Stray Gathering
  • Team Penning
  • Wild Cow Milking
  • Kids’ Rodeo
    • Stick horse races for children under 5
    • Dummy roping for children 12 and under (divided into age-appropriate categories)
  • Cowboy Trappings and Trade Show
    Features western décor, fashion items, saddle makers, bit and spur makers, and ranch trade.

Peace Treaty’s Historical Night Show

Can-can girls and gun-slinging cowboys are the stars of this historical melodrama that tells the tale of the infamous Medicine Valley Bank robbery of 1884. You’ll think you’re right in the middle of the action during this highly entertaining re-enactment…and you never know who’ll show up at the Red Dog Saloon!
