This marker tells that the hotel was built from bricks made right here in Medicine Lodge, and the woodwork was brought by ox team from the Harper railway terminal 35 miles away.
Three stories high plus a basement, it had a billiard room, a private club room, a barber shop, bath rooms, a parlor, and 45 guest rooms. When the building was completed, it was furnished in the most elaborate and splendid style of that day. The marker says that even the cowboys were dazzled by its rich Brussels carpet, furniture of walnut, ebony and marble, paintings, tableware and silverware! After several changes of ownership over the decades, the property fell into disrepair. But it’s current owners bought the property in 2003, and gave this old gem a massive restoration. It is currently their private residence.
